Frequently Asked Questions:

The Flag Football program is a simplified program to introduce children from Kindergarten through the Second grade to organized football.

The focus is on having fun, learning the basics of the game, and working together as a team. Mostly, it's about the fun.

Q. Is the Meridian Youth Football Flag Program affiliated with or run by the Meridian School District?

The program is run with the cooperation of the school district but is is no way affiliated with the school district. The program is a part of the Meridian Youth Football program and run solely by volunteers.

Q. What is the Practice Schedule Typically Like?

Games begin after Labor Day. Your child's coach will determine how many practices he/she feels are necessary before games begin. Each team's practice schedule and location is determined by the head coach and not the Flag Football Director.

Q. What Equipment Does My Child Need?

There is no special equipment required. We provide a jersey, and flags for practice and games. You are responsible for shorts and shoes. Plastic cleats are allowed. There may be some used cleats available as part of the Cleat Repeat program. Metal or screw in cleats are not allowed. 

Q. What Can I Expect As Far As a Game Schedule for My Child's Team?

The flag football season will begin, and end in the month of September. Games are generally scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesdays to avoid conflict with the High School football teams. Games will be played on Legacy Field. Game schedules are set after rosters are completed by the Flag Football Director.

Q. How are Players Assigned to a Team?

Teams are constructed by evenly distributing kids by age within each age group. Consideration will be given regarding kids who share rides to practice or games.
